One more country
Vicarious Travel Blog, Day 5: I didn’t hear much today from Thomas and his girlfriend. I’m confident that this means that they’re doing ok. I got a text early this morning if there were entry restrictions into Germany, but a bit of quick research found that GB isn’t considered a high-risk country anymore, so other than their passports and the international vaccine passport, the kids don’t need anything to get into Germany on Tuesday.
On the menu is a quick trip down to Wales, just to be able to say that they went there, I suppose, with them being at the border. One more country under their belt, check!
I’ve been to Wales a few times. A trip to Wales was actually my first visit to Britain when I was 14 years old. I spent a couple of weeks in sleepy Cwmbran. Then I went back to visit my sister who was working in Cardiff for a year. Finally, on my third visit to the UK, I made it to London and I was appalled by how horrible the London accent was. For all those years I thought that the Welsh English was the best English out there. But now that I’ve been speaking English for 20+ years, I realize that the Welsh accent is charming, but not exactly “high” English. I’m curious to find out what the kids think of it.
