The kids are still in Chester. Today, they went to a zoo. I had no idea that in Chester, a town of around 90,000 people, has a zoo. But not just any zoo.
“It is one of the top zoos in the world and a leader in conservation of rare and endangered species. So visitors should set aside a whole day to visit Chester Zoo’s 20,000-plus animals from 500 different species, set in 125 acres of parkland, including black rhinos, giraffes, elephants, lions, tigers, reptiles, birds and bats.”
Bats, yeah. Thomas told me that there is actually a bat cave that you can walk into, and the bats will fill around and maybe even land on you. How cool is that? Their visit started 11 AM and walked around until 5 PM and barely got to see it all. Amazing.
I know that zoos sometimes have a bad rep, and there are some pretty sad zoos out there. But a lot of them, and apparently this one is up there, do a lot of animal conservation - kind of like a modern arc.
They kids now have been travelling 7 days. I bet the time flies for them. So many fun things to see and experience, and they still have 5 weeks to go!
